Notes about KC's training:

KC isn't just my new agility partner, but she is my husband RC's new hunting partner.

May 23, 2010

We unexpectedly picked KC up 3 weeks earlier than planned!  She was only 6 weeks old!  She and her 11 littermates were removed from their mother at about 3 1/2 to 4 weeks of age.

So our first days and weeks have been a bit interesting!  We are, of course, crate training, but her duration times for sleep are very short.  2 hours the first few days.

June 1, 2010 KC is now 8 weeks old.  She is now going about 6 hours through the night before needing to go out.  Much improved.  She has grown a lot.  At 6 weeks, she weighed about 6 lbs.  At 8 weeks, she is now over 8 lbs.  The first week home I had her stool checked and found she had coccidia.  After the first treatment, she still had coccidia so we started her on a new treatement and put Greta, Liza and Ava on at same time.

Due to all of the above, we have not done much training or exposure.

June 2, 2010 - 8 weeks old

KC's first training trip to Greta's Gym.  We basically played tug and chase with a tug toy.  I tried her on a wobble board (operantly) and she took to it beautifully! She now runs over to get on when she sees it.

We are beginning, with meals, to work on sit and "wait".  We hold her for the wait and when we let go we say "break", her release word.

June 7, 2010

KC is feeling much better so we have started some training!

She is starting to get "sit" with operant conditioning and a treat.  Her "wait" is coming too with her release word being "break".

At the gym, she loves to tug with me and we play "chase" and tug.  She loves the wobble board and the tippy boards.

We are working on Crate Games with KC.  Her wire crate is too small for her to sit in, so we need to get her a bigger one.  KC is starting to run to the crate whenever I have clicker and treat in hand.

We have limited the amount of playtime between KC and Ava.  Ava was becoming way too important to KC and also getting a bit rough with KC.  We are going to take KC to Greta's Daytime Playtime on separate days.  KC needs Greta's Daytime Playtime for socialization.

June 18, 2010

KC went to our cabin at Turtle Lake in Canada for the second time.  She is exposed to riding in boat, sand, lake and "running free" all weekend long!  She loves it, just like Greta, Liza and Ava!

June 25, 2010

At 11 weeks old, KC experienced her 1st outdoor agility show!  It was hot, wet & rainy all weekend. She was great and spent long days in crate under the pop-up.

There was a lake there and RC walked her to the lake where there was a duck.  RC was a bit dismayed when KC appeared frighted by the duck!  Maybe she will be a better agility dog than a bird dog!?!

June 28, 2010

We got KC a new crate which she can now sit up in.  Helps crate training a lot!  I started her on travel board in 2 on 2 off during the evening meal.  She did very well!

I am working on her "drop" by having her go under my legs.  Clicking and treating when she is on her belly.

July 20, 2010

KC loves the wobble board with the ball underneath!  She loves the rocking and rolling. She jumps on hard.  She will sit and stays on until release given (Break).

We worked on ladder training.  She is pretty clutsy but starting to "get it".  Seems that drive is building.

Travel board - can set KC in 2 on 2 off position and she stays in place with high rate of high value treats.  I am able to switch sides and run a bit ahead.  She stays until release is given.

Started teaching "side".  She is slow on the uptake but is starting to get it.  (Both sides)

Drop - only way KC will do this is under legs - but does this pretty well.

Tugging - KC loves, loves, loves!

August 7, 2010

KC is now 4 months old and weighs 30 pounds!  She is growing so fast she still thinks she is tiny and it causes her to "run into things" and other funny antics!  Poor Ava can't understand what has happened to her "little buddy".

KC's drop command has been solidified with the help of Greta's Daytime Playtime staff working on this during KC's Playtime Plus!

Introduced KC to "teeter bang game" with operant conditioning.  She took to it at its highest level very well.  By the end of first training, KC was getting on side in the 2 on 2 off position.

Continuing ladder, wobble, side training.  KC is starting to show more drive.  On the travel board, she is starting to understand where her feet are.

August 30 - September 2, 2010

KC is now 5 months old.

The past 3 nights I have been a Greta's Gym working on:

    Wobble Board

    Ladder

    Travel Board

Bang Teeter with 2 on 2 off

Running, chasing and tugging like crazy

KC's warm up routine is starting to come.
